“My professional interests over the years have been the progress of genetic selection and production practices in animal/pig growth, skeletal muscle physiology and carcass and meat quality, and their implications for the food supply chain. With that in mind, it is critically important to further explore the biological phenomena of SBM characterized by abundant and diverse content of growth- and health-promoting functional bio-actives with anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, antioxidation and immune enhancing properties. Therefore, it is extremely exciting for me to be part of the academic professionals who focus on advancing our basic and applied knowledge of the benefits of SBM fed to the pigs to mitigate the reduction in carcass weight and quality during the summer months and to alleviate the negative effects of respiratory disease.”
